How did your journey at SEB begin?
After traveling across several countries for more than two years it was time for me to settle down back in Latvia. Luckily my friend who already worked at SEB suggested applying for the Regulatory Specialist position at KYC Reviews Center. At the time it was a newly established department, so I decided to give it a shot although I didn’t have any previous experience in KYC area, and I got the job.
While I was learning more about the regulatory side of my job, I discovered my passion towards numbers and analysis of datasets. After a while it was quite natural to move into a more advanced role and I became a Process Area Specialists in one of our KYC Teams. While taking care of my PAS responsibilities I kept expanding my knowledge and experience with data analysis by taking ownership of the reporting activities for our department. I spent about one year as a PAS and then I was promoted to the Business Analyst role. This is already my third year with SEB’s KYC Reviews Center and I have thoroughly enjoyed this journey thanks to the wonderful colleagues as well as the open and supportive culture at SEB.

What is your role and how does your day usually look like?
There are four people in my team, and we are driving the data agenda for our department and beyond. There are many different tasks that need to be taken care of, but my main focus is on reporting – gathering requirements for different reports that we deliver within the department and to our stakeholders across the division, creating solutions for data sourcing and visualization. I work a lot with Excel and Tableau, and for me it is a creative process where I can combine technical skills, visual layout skills and ability to use data to tell a story.
Could you describe how is it working at SEB?
SEB gives equal opportunities to everyone for growth and career development. There is always a chance to learn more and get involved in new activities. At SEB I have been very lucky to have excellent managers who have always supported my growth and helped me in developing the necessary skills I need to succeed. One of the major reasons why I enjoy working at SEB are the people – I have the best colleagues from whom I can learn and who are great role models.
Please tell us what motivates you at work?
I am motivated by the support I receive from the people around me, and the fact that I know that my efforts will not go unnoticed.
If you show dedication and diligence, you will definitely get an opportunity!
What are your plans for the future?
I will continue to expand my expertise in the current role. I am especially eager to become more proficient with data visualization tool Tableau as we have started to use it quite recently and there are still plenty to learn.
How does your day look like after work, what are your hobbies and interests?
In my spare time I enjoy endurance sports like cycling and cross-country skiing. It’s a good way to lift your mood and keep the body healthy. I am also representing SEB cycling team in mountain biking races.
Few years ago I visited Slovenia and climbed its highest mountain together with a group of friends. Since then I have caught ‘the mountain bug’ and now, after hiking and climbing mountains in Canada, New Zealand, the Himalayas and Alaska, it is hard to imagine vacations abroad without going to the mountains.
