The design of the new payment and credit cards was inspired by the unique landscapes of the Nordic region. Each card has a different theme. For example, the debit cards for private individuals feature the Baltic Sea, while the business credit cards depict an evergreen forest.
In addition, 84% of the new card is made of bioplastics, produced using environmentally friendly corn starch. Thus, we reduce our CO2 footprint right from the start of production.
In our search for a greener way to produce payment cards, we analysed the full life cycle of the card – from the materials used in production, through the manufacturing process and transportation, to the end of the card's life cycle.
At the same time, it was important for us to find a material that was not only environmentally friendly, but also durable and safe. The bioplastic cards are tested and certified by the card manufacturer. The manufacturer assures that the payment cards will withstand a full life cycle. However, we remind you that the customer and the cardholder have a duty to safeguard the card and use it with care protecting it from mechanical or electronic damages.
The new cards are chip-enabled and can be used for contactless payments, just like the existing ones.
We've added a tactile cut-out to the most commonly used payment cards. This makes it easier for people with visual impairments to recognise and use the cards.
You will notice that we have already replaced your card image with the new design in the SEB mobile app, internet bank and digital wallets. Whereas, as to the plastic cards, we'll replace them gradually – when your current card expires, we'll automatically make you a new design card. This can lead to situations where you see an image of the new design card next to your existing old design card in the internet bank or on the mobile app.
You don't need to apply for a new card or take any other action – our existing cards will remain in operation as usual. When your card is about to expire, we will automatically produce and send you a new design card.
However, if you want to use the new design card now, you can replace the card or apply for a new card. Whereas, if you use a credit card, you can apply for additional card and then close your existing credit card.
Please note that charges apply for replacing a card, applying for a new card and ordering an additional card according to the price list.
We have introduced a new visual design for our cards, including the existing Mastercard Gold credit card. Furthermore, we have changed the name of the card to Mastercard Premium.
