Customers of SEB banka can now use their smartphones for making payments
SEB banka’s customers can now use their with Android operating system-based smartphones for making payments for purchases and services. Smartphones can be used for making payments of up to 150 EUR in Latvia and abroad - at POS where contactless payments are available.
Making payments with a smartphone first requires creating a digital version of the bank’s card in SEB banka’s mobile app. The new feature is available for all Mastercard payment and credit cards, including the cards without a contactless payment function. Activating the card in the smart phone requires the near field communication (NFC) wireless data technology.
“The willingness to use digital and mobile channels for daily banking services and payments on the part of customers has been growing. We are therefore pleased to have been able to take the next step towards the digital development and offer the opportunity to our customers to make payments with smartphones in Latvia and Estonia. The customers who have already tried the new feature appreciate its convenience most. Undoubtedly, our daily habits are changing - fewer of us are carrying the traditional wallets, whereas, smartphones are always within a reach. Therefore, activating your bank card on your mobile phone will always keep your finances at your fingertips. It should be pointed out that payments with a smartphone are still running in the test mode, therefore we encourage our customers to try this feature, rate it and report any weaknesses and any required improvements to us,”says Arnis Škapars, member of the board of SEB banka.
You can make payments with your smartphone just like with your contactless card, i.e., by tapping it at the payment terminal. Payments can be made at POS where contactless payments are available. However, using smartphones is not possible for ATM transactions. Payments of up to 25 EUR do not require the entering of the PIN code of the mobile app. However, from time to time, you will be asked to confirm your identity and enter your PIN or fingerprint when using biometric authentication, for security purposes. Payments in the range from EUR 25 to EUR 150 must always be confirmed with your PIN code. For purchases greater than EUR 150, bank cards will need to be used.
